Expertos internacionales reflexionan sobre derechos lingüísticos en la conferencia anual del CBS de Reno

El Center for Basque Studies de la Universidad de Reno, Nevada, ha reunido a lo largo de esta semana a diversos expertos internacionales en el marco de una conferencia sobre multiculturalidad y derechos lingüísticos. La conferencia, cuya parte académica concluirá esta tarde, lleva el título de 'The Protection of Cultural Diversity: Language Rights and Legal Pluralism' y cuenta entre sus organizadores y participantes a los historiadores vascos Oscar Alvarez Gila y Xabier Irujo Ametzaga.

Reno, EEUU. Los sonidos del euskera se mezclan estos días en Reno con idiomas como el maorí, lenguajes de la Amazonía brasileña y varias lenguas africanas en el Congreso Anual del Center for Basque Studies, que se desarrolla en la Universidad de Nevada-Reno. El título de la Conferencia es 'Protection of Cultural Diversity: Language Rights and Legal Pluralism' y las sesiones vienen desarrollándose desde el martes en la Biblioteca Vasca de la universidad norteamericana.

Entre los participantes están los expertos Iñigo Urrutia y Oscar Alvarez, de la Universidad del País Vasco-Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea; el profesor de la Universidad de Nevada Xabier Irujo, y Viola Miglio, coordinadora de la sección de estudios vascos de la Universidad de California en Santa Bárbara. El grupo vasco-californiano Noka ofreció un concierto el pasado miércoles, dentro de las actividades paralelas al congreso. El Center for Basque Studies publicará las conclusiones de este encuentro el año que viene, en su colección Conference Paper Series. Mientras tanto, quienes no pueden asistir a la cita pueden seguirla a través de la web del congreso.
