With the help of its mentor, chef Itziar Aguirre, the Lagunen Etxea Basque club of Laprida carried out the first presentation of “Pilpileando Argentina,” a project whose objective is not only to share the secrets of Basque cooking with the public, but also and above all, to help those who live in conditions of extreme poverty, and in particular those in the province of Chaco. The opening of the 2012 edition of “Pilpileando” took place at the Paradise Amphitheater in Laprida. Deemed a success it gathered a great number of non-perishable food items that will be delivered through the Small Gestures Foundation. The gastronomic tour of solidarity will continue throughout the year, with the next stop being Laurak Bat in Buenos Aires on March 16th, and in La Plata on the 17th. If you would like to enjoy good Basque food as well as help those in need, join “Pilpileando Argentina!”

Laprida, Argentina.  Invited by the sub-commission of cooking of the Lagunen Etxea Basque club, Chef Itziar Aguirre made the first presentation of the year of “Pilpileando Argentina” in the city of Laprida.

Aguirre gave an hour and half long class at the Paradise Amphitheater, where dozens of people gathered to learn more about Basque gastronomy.  Accompanied by club members Monica Azpiazu and Alba Larralde, Itziar made “Kokotxas al pil pil” (cod cheeks al pil pil) and “kokotxas” breaded in flour and egg and fried with a garlic flan, based on potatoes and milk; black rice with squid, mushrooms, roasted peppers and peas; walnut salsa with ice cream and Patxaran.  After cooking and to close the first edition of “Pilpileando Argentina,” the dishes were raffled off to those present.

In the coming months and throughout 2012, Itziar will visit several Euskal Etxeas in the country.  Confirmed dates are March 16th at Laurak Bat in Buenos Aires, and on the 17th in La Plata.  Future sessions will take place in Maipu, Tandil, Rauch, Azul, Coronel Pringles, Arrecifes, Macachin, Corpus Christi, Saladillo, Cañuelas, Chacabuco and Rosario.  We remind you that donations gathered at these events will be distributed to those in need, specifically to those in the Chaco area, by the Small Gestures Foundation, led by the Argentine artist, Patricia Sosa.
