The new Board of Directors of the Pelota Federation of Buenos Aires (FPPBA) was elected at its annual meeting on March 17 to serve during the 2012-2014 term. The group is comprised of representatives from different institutions in the province, including the current president of the Euzko Etxea of La Plata, Javier Clúa. “The challenge for the FPPBA this year will be to consolidate Paleta events, while continuing to support more non-traditional forms such as hand ball, Xare and Paleta cuero ,” as expressed by the heads of the federation.

La Plata Argentina. Pelota has always been an important activity at the euskal etxea in La Plata. In fact, in 2007 they inaugurated a trinquet that meets the requirements of the International Federation of Pelota, only the second of its kind in Argentina.

Five years later, the pelota players from La Plata have now taken another important step, as the club’s president, Javier Clúa, is now on the Board of Directors of the Federation of Pilota of Buenos Aires as a member. “The goal of his becoming part of the board is to encourage the practice of non-traditional modalities such as hand ball, Xare and Paleta Cuero. We are foreseeing at least one regional tournament in each of these disciplines which has never been done in Argentina,” according to the Euzko Etxea.

The Pelota Federation of the Province Buenos Aires was founded in 1934, and currently includes 120 affiliated institutions throughout the province. It is worth noting, that there were nearly 1,500 individuals competing in various categories in tournaments held in 2011. It should also be noted that Argentinean pelotaris also performed very well at the Pan-American Games in Guadalajara in 2011, where they won various gold, silver and bronze medals.
