The “EuskalKonplu” series brings Basque film and literature to Madrid’s Universidad Complutense

Over the next few days the “EuskalKonplu” series, organized by the Basque department at the Universidad Complutense of Madrid, will provide the possibility to see various Basque films, as well as speak with some of their creators in person. Artists such as director Montxo Armendariz, writer Arantxa Urretabizkaia, or the actor/director Xabier Elorriaga will participate in seminars on the films that make up the series. Asier Altuna will also be joining them in Madrid, director of the documentary “Bertsolari,” that debuted at Donostia’s latest Film Festival. EuskalKultura.com spoke with Karlos Cid Abasolo, Basque professor at the university and organizer of the series.

Madrid, Spain.  The Universidad Complutense in Madrid will provide, this month, the unbeatable opportunity to enjoy Basque film, thanks to the 2011 edition of “EuskalKonplu”.  Attendees will not only be able to enjoy the films themselves but will also have the opportunity to speak with their directors, writers and actors in person.  The series, as previous years, is supported by the Basque Government’s Department of Culture. 

Due to last minute changes, “EuskalKonplu” will begin this Monday with a screening of the film “Obaba,” by Montxo Armendariz.  The program is as follows:

October 10

"Obaba". Director: Montxo Armendariz. Novel by Bernardo Atxaga (Obabakoak).

-14:00: Screening of film.
-16:00: Seminar with Montxo Armendariz.

In the College of Philology’s auditorium

October 11 and 17

“Perfect Happiness,” Director: Jabi Elortegi. Novel by Anjel Lertxundi.

-October 11, 15:00: Film screening in Room D-207 of the College of Philology
-October 17, 15:00: Seminar with Jabi Elortegi also in Room D-207

20:30: Presentation of the film “Bertsolari.” Seminar with its director, Asier Altuna. In the Homeopathic Institute’s Auditorium (Auditorium, 1st floor), c/ Eloy Gonzalo 3, Madrid.

October 25

“Porque, Panpox” (Zergatik Panpox: Why Panpox) Director: Xabier Elorriaga. Novel by Arantxa Urretabizkaia.

NEW BASQUE COURSE

Karlos Cid Abasolo, series organizer and Basque professor at the Universidad Complutense, added that the Etxepare Basque Institute has also begun a new Basque course (blended learning) in Madrid.  The classes will take place at the Homeopathic Institute (c/Eloy Gonzalo 3) and those students from the Universidad Complutense, and the Autonomous University of Alcala will receive six credits for doing the course, at either undergraduate or graduate levels.  “The first class will begin in October, but those who are interested still have time to enroll.”
