Talks between the Basque club and the UNCPBA (National Central University of the Province of Buenos Aires) to assess the feasibility of the project began during the 2011 school year. With the goal being to reach the maximum number of people in academic fields possible, Gure Etxea provided the university with the resources to put a beginning level Basque language class in place. Now, the projected has been accepted and so classes are about to start in May, meeting on Tuesdays and Thursdays and will be taught by Valeria Aramburu.

Tandil, Argentina.  Tandil’s Gure Etxea Basque club is very active in areas such as dance, pilota, mus and gastronomy, to mention a few.  However, this year it has deepened the bond that it has always had with the Basque language.  Remember that they were the host, during the last week in January, to students and professors of the Euskara Munduan program and converted their headquarters into a Barnetegi (Basque language intensive school).

Now, looking at the 2012 school year, the Basque club has begun a project relating to the Basque language and the possibility of spreading it outside of the scope of this community.  Beginning in May, the UNCPBA University (Universidad Nacional del Centro de la Provincia de Buenos Aires) will teach beginning Basque classes, more specifically, its Department of Languages.  According to the agreement signed by the Basque Club of Tandil and the center for studies, the course will follow HABE’s curriculum and will provide a basic program after which participants will be able to hold simple conversations, read short texts and produce simple writings.

The class will take place at the Escuela Nacional Ernesto Sábato, on the Richieri and Loberia streets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 19:00-20:30.  Valeria Aramburu, professor with the Euskara Munduan program will teach the classes and be monitored jointly by FEVA and HABE.  For more information go to the Department of Languages at the University, Pinto 399, second floor, office #7; email here; or phone (02293) 42-2000 ext.  194, from 8 to 5pm.
