Los Angeles, CA.  Once again the first weekend in May will mark the beginning of the Basque festival season in the US with Basque picnics and festivals being held in several different cities and states with Basque populations through the month of October. 

So, as usual the season will begin this weekend thanks to Fresno’s Basque club.  This year the club is celebrating its 35th annual Basque Festival that will take place at Rancho Vista del Rio, unless in rains, in which case it will be moved to the fronton and facilities at the Campos Brothers Farms near Caruthers. 

The festivities in Fresno will begin at 11am with a Basque mass, followed by a BBQ lamb lunch prepared by the members, and a performance by the local dance group, as well as the San Francisco Klika.  The day will end with a public dance with music provided by the Jean Flesher Band.

Fresno enjoys Basque restaurants such as the Basque Hotel and the Santa Fe.  On Sunday May 6 everyone is invited for a traditional brunch at the Santa Fe owned by Panpi and Manuela Etchechury (tel: 559.226.7499).
