Boise State University has opened a search for a director for its Basque Studies Program. The contract is for one year, but may be renewed. Eligible candidates must hold a degree in History and have teaching experience in the area of Basque Studies, mastery of English is required and knowledge of Basque, Spanish or French is preferred. Boise State created its Basque Studies Program in 2005, and in 2007 inaugurated its Center for Basque Studies.

Boise, Idaho.  Boise State University is looking to hire a person to be in charge of its Center for Basque Studies.  The candidate should come from a background in History, preferably with a doctorate, and have both teaching and administrative experience, with interdisciplinary experience being preferred.  

Duties include both teaching and administrative functions, and coordinating with other agencies both academic and administrative in the Basque community. The person hired will hold the position of Head Lecturer/Director of Basque Studies.

DUTIES

-Working with different programs at the Basque Studies Program (60%) 

     -Contribute to training, coordination and implementation of an international consortium of Basque Studies 
     -Collaboration in the creation of an international journal of Basque Studies 
     -Coordination of Basque Studies conferences 
     -Collaborate closely with the Boise’s Basque Museum and Cultural Center, Euzkaldunak (Boise’s Basque Club), Boise’s Ikastola, NABO, Eusko Ikaskuntza, Euskosare and many other local, regional and international Basque organizations to integrate the BSU’s Basque Studies program into these communities
     -Assist in the creation and maintenance of the Basque Studies’ web page 

-Teaching the Minor in Basque Studies (30%) 

     -Responsible for teaching up to 6 credits in the Basque Studies Minor
     -Assist in coordinating the internship program with the Basque Museum, Oinkari Basque Dancers and Boise’s Ikastola 

-Participate in BSU’s international programs (10%)   

     -Assist in coordinating and networking with partners in the international arena to promote professional teachers and student exchanges 

Minimum requirements: 

     -Bachelor's degree in history 
     -Demonstrable academic work in Basque Studies
     -Teaching and administrative experience
     -Experience in application, realization and management of scholarships and grants
     -Experience in working closely with other organizations 

Special consideration will be given to:  

     -PhD in history
     -Command of the Basque, Spanish and/or French languages 
     -Experience in interdisciplinary and international collaboration
