The Basque Studies Minor at Boise State University (BSU) in the Idaho’s state capital, works, and is working very well. According to numbers provided by the university to EuskalKultura.com, 611 students participated in the program during the last academic year 2012-2013. The program is interdisciplinary in nature and so works with 14 other departments on campus according to Nere Lete, director of the Basque Studies Minor.

Boise, Idaho.  During 2012-13 a total of 611 students took clases offered as part of the Basque Studies Minor at BSU, according to the data provided by Lete.  Given the significance of these quantitative results, the qualitative also needs to be considered since each one of these classes is given in collaboration with a corresponding department at the university.

With 14 departments participating, any conference or workshop, for example on Basque Art also involves the Art Department, and offerings regarding Economics or Basque Cooperatives involve the Economics Department, as well as others like History or Euskera would involve students from History or Foreign Languages.

The fourteen departments who participated during this last academic year include: Basque, Basque Studies, Anthropology, History, Sociology, Economics, International Business, Gender Studies, Kinesiology, Theater, English, Foreign Language, Spanish and Political Science.  Nere Lete has just created relationships with three more departments who plan to collaborate in the short to medium term including Geography, Environmental Studies, and the Honors Program.
