Mary Eileen Walker passed away on March 23, 2018 at the grand age of 95.

Mary was born December 18, 1922 at the Grass Valley Ranch in Winnemucca, Nevada to Basque parents Gil and Maria Prida.

She grew up on a sheep ranch with her sister Josephine and two brothers, Gil and John, and was very proud of her Basque heritage.

Mary attended school in Winnemucca, then moved to Red Bluff, California with her father's sheep business and attended high school there where she made life long friends.

The family moved to Reno and Mary graduated from Reno High School and attended the University of Nevada, Reno where she was a member of the Pi Beta Phi Sorority.

She recently received a "golden arrow" from the sorority to commemorate 75 years as a member. While attending UNR, she met Myneer Walker, and they were married in 1942 in the basement of a church in South Carolina where he was stationed in the Army. Mary and Myneer enjoyed 68 years together along with their children Andree, Cheryl and Beer. They lived a full life together filled with family and good friends, and between the two of them Grammy and Boompa created a large, loving family.

Most importantly in Mary's life was her family. Many hours were spent at their house eating delicious meals, drinking chocolate milkshakes and playing outside. Generation after generation and their friends stole away to her house at lunchtime to enjoy one of Grammy's meals, always leaving more than full and with a bag of cookies to go. Their backyard is full of memories of games, barbeques and Grammy pitching wiffle balls for hours.

Mary attended the Basque Festival annually with family to enjoy chorizos, Basque dancing and shopping for Basque gifts. She was the epitome of a matriarch.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents Gil and Maria Prida, sister Josephine Moulian, brothers Gil and John Prida, husband Myneer Walker, daughters Andree Walker and Cheryl McMullen, grandson J.K. Metzker and granddaughter-in-law Jaimie Metzker. Mary is survived by her son Beer Walker (Heidi), son-in-law Joe McMullen (Stephanie); Grammy's grandchildren Kristin Rolling (Henry), Mini Peters (Dan), Mitch McMullen(Bridget), Matt McMullen (Amber); Grammy's great-grandchildren Jonathan, Jakob, Kelsey and Josh Rolling, Alex Metzker, J.D., Kate and Annie Jo Peters, Tommy, Tanner and Luke Metzker, and Macey and Molly McMullen. Grammy is also survived by numerous loving nieces and nephews as well as loving companions Dee, Ana and Mae.

A Memorial Mass in celebration of her life will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at Our Lady of the Snows Church in Reno.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Carmelite Sisters in honor of Mary Walker: 1950 LaFond Dr. Reno, NV 89509.
