Marichu Azparren was born on June 2, 1938, in Almandoz, Valle de Baztan, Navarra, Spain. She passed away peacefully at the age 78 on May 24, 2017, in Bakersfield, California after a courageous battle with kidney disease. She was the youngest daughter of the seven children born to Inacio Jauregui and Josefa Sanzberro.

Marichu grew up in Almandoz, Spain went to work in France, came to the Chino, California at the age of 25, after various places in the Modesto region, she lived in Hanford, Wasco and eventually settling in Bakersfield. Marichu was fluent in 4 languages, was a great homemaker, an excellent cook and her flower beds were always blooming. She never met a strange, especially in the Basque community.

Marichu is survived by her husband Joaquin, her children Jean Ygnacio (Jane Marie), Mike, Josephine (Alfonso), Pete (Jane), Mike, Carlos, Josefa, Fran and son-in-law Don; her grandchildren Maite, Shane, Vanessa, Sara (Brandon), Victoria, Amaya, Micheala, Marie Elisabeth, and Lily. She is survived by her siblings in the Basque County: Ramon (Marina), Jacinto (Lourdes), Ignacia and brother-in-law Manuel. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands- Jean Martin Betbeder, and Pedro Urbelz, her siblings: Esteban, Gregoria, Presen, and brother-in-law Jean and Gracien; and son-in-law Danny Maitia.

We, the family, would like to extend a thank you, Dr. Harold Baer, for 13 years of great care, and those at Davita Dialysis. A special thank you for the caregivers: Marina, Virginia, Maria Luz and Adelia for the sweet and loving care they provided. Our mom was a dedicated wife, a loving mother who taught us the values of life and was proud of her Basque heritage. She will be truly missed.

Services will be held at St. Francis Church on Tuesday, May 30, 2017; Rosary at 8:30 am and a Christian Burial Mass at 9:00 am. Father Craig will officiate and interment at Greenlawn Northeast. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kern County Basque Scholarship Fund.
