Jesus 'Jess' Arriaga, 73 passed away from metastatic mesothelioma of the lungs on the 4th of July 2017. Originally from Iruzubieta, Spain. Jesus was second oldest of 6 children. Predeceased by his parents Maria Ignacia Etxebarria and Luis Arriaga and his two brothers, Javier and Luis Mari. He is survived by his loving wife Kathy of 42 years but together 47 years. His daughter Tawnie Cunningham (Larry), sons, Tommy Lockett and Jesse Arriaga Jr. (Rob). Granddaughter Rylan Grace.
Sister-in-laws Sharon Oxborrow of Reno, Loretta McAfee (Bob) of Idaho, Brother-in-law Neil Murphy (Reno).
Family in Spain, brother Sabino (Amaya), sister Mariangeles (Javier), brother Roberto (Kurutze)
San Francisco family, adopted sisters, Natalie, Helen and family.
Numerous wonderful nieces and nephews, Spain and stateside, too many to mention!!
Many life long friends, again too many to mention!
In 1964 Jess traveled from Spain to the United States on a 3 year contract to herd sheep in California and Nevada. While herding sheep in Thomas Creek area Jess met his future boss. After getting his American Citizenship he worked many years for A&A Plumbing under local #350. Jess and Kathy were successful motel owners for 23 years.
Jess was known as 'pinche' in Spain (Jack of all trades). He loved cars, flea markets, Louie's Basque Corner, and helping all of his friends, family and loved the Basque community.
Jess was an outstanding husband, father and friend. He will be greatly missed!
A 'Celebration of Life' will be held at "The Grove" on August 6, 2017 from 1-4:00 pm at 95 Foothill Road, Reno, Nevada.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to cancer research of your choice.
