Frank Trevino, 90, of Rupert, died Sunday, March 26, 2017, surrounded by family and friends at his home.

He was born June 6, 1926, in Rupert, Idaho, the son of Manuel Trevino and Matea Meabe of Spain. He received his education in Rupert, graduating from Rupert High School in 1944. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1944, and served in the European Theatre of World War II until he was honorably discharged in 1946. Upon completion of his service, he went into farming during the growing seasons and worked in plant operations for Amalgamated Sugar in the winters. He also worked in the livestock industry, raising beef cattle and feeder lambs. He married Phyllis M. Peterman on July 9, 1951, in Hailey, Idaho, and they made their home in Rupert, where he has since resided.

Frank was a member of Saint Nicholas Catholic Church and had sung with the church choir and a local barbershop quartet. He served a number of years as a member of the Rural Electric Board of Directors. He was an accomplished farmer and recognized as a top producer, receiving several awards, including the Northrup King Seed Bean Grower of the Year. He was an active member of the Rupert Elks. He enjoyed snow skiing and spent several seasons as a ski instructor and a member of the ski patrol. Together, with his wife Phyllis, they enjoyed family, square dancing, and traveling. Later in life, he continued to travel visiting family and making two trips to the Basque Country of Spain—as recently as last year. He enjoyed delivering Meals on Wheels till he passed.

He is survived by one sister, Margarita Manning of Rupert; his children, Kathy (Toby—deceased) Williams of Westminster, Colo., Steve (Lonna) Trevino and Bob (Leslie) Trevino both of Rupert, Tom Trevino and his companion, Lynn Felice, of Salt Lake City, Utah, Barbara (Jeff) Johnson of Spokane, Wash., and Deanna (Rick) Wendt of Canton, Ohio; 14 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild, Henely Dakota.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Christopher Francisco Trevino; his wife, Phyllis; two sisters, Phyllis Brown and Helen Huggins Uristi; and one brother, John Trevino.

A prayer vigil with recitation of the rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, March 31, at Saint Nicholas Catholic Church, 802 F Street, in Rupert.

The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 1, at Saint Nicholas Catholic Church, with The Reverend Father Gabriel Morales as celebrant. Urn placement will be in the Rupert Cemetery with military rites provided by the Mini-Cassia Veterans Organization.
