Buffalo, Wyoming Big Horn Basque Club May Host 2017 NABO Convention (SheridanMedia.com-en)

2016/04/28

Planning has apparently begun for Buffalo's Big Horn Basque Club to host the North American Basque Organizations (NABO) annual convention in the summer of 2017. John Camino came before the Buffalo City Council at their last meeting to announce the fact and to begin getting the ball rolling to get city assets lined up for the convention.

Aaron Palmer. Camino explained more about the Big Horn Basque Club, NABO and their history in Buffalo.

Buffalo, in addition to tentatively hosting the 2017 convention, is scheduled to host again in 2021.

Buffalo has previously hosted the convention in 2011, 2006, 1995 and in 1988.

NABO began having the conventions in 1979.

Camino spoke to the council about tentative plans for various events such as a replica sheep wagon auction to raise funds for the local food pantry, a dance in the park, games and other events in Washington Park, and a parade to mention a few. The weekend is still very early in the planning, but he wanted to let city officials know when the dates were and to verbally “reserve” some of the venues for the events that weekend.

Angela Fox, with the Chamber of Commerce, said they would be willing to help Camino and the Basque Club to get things organized and formally request the necessary venues, street closures and whatever permits will be necessary to get the convention up and running.

Mayor Mike Johnson thanked Camino and said he was looking forward to the convention next year and what it will mean to Buffalo and Johnson County.

The Big Horn Basque Club will come back before the council with the necessary formal requests once they have a set schedule of events and venues needed during that July weekend in 2017.
