(1924-2017)

Milagros Landaluce, 92, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2017. She joins her loving husband on what would have been their 69th wedding anniversary. Milagros was born on December 31, 1924 to Vincenta Larrabeitia and Ziriako Elguezabal in Mungia, Bizkaia, Spain. Milagros saw little of her father who worked as a sheepherder in Mexico. She was raised in Mungia with her older siblings, Martina and Jenaro.

Milagros finished her formal education at the age of 14. She then enrolled in a sewing academy to become a professional seamstress. She worked independently as a sewing instructor and dressmaker in Mungia and, later, in Boise. When she was no longer able to sew, she enjoyed crocheting hats, scarves, and blankets for family and friends.

Milagros met her husband, Sabin, before the Spanish Civil War, during which he was imprisoned in 1937. They became reacquainted upon his release and married on June 3, 1948. Milagros and Sabin lived in Bilbao, Spain where they welcomed two sons, Sabin and Luis Mari. Milagros' husband Sabin immigrated to the United States in 1952. Milagros joined him in 1957 with their two children. They settled in Boise. Their third son Josu was born in 1963. Prior to Josu's birth, Milagros became a U.S. citizen. As a proud Democrat, she believed it was her civic duty to vote in every election.

Sabin and Milagros were active in Boise's Basque community. Milagros helped with the costumes for the Oinkari Basque Dancers in which Sabin participated and was a txistulari. As members of Euskaldunak, they enjoyed monthly dinners, the summer picnic, and playing briska. The couple spent every other summer in their homeland, the Basque Country. There, they enjoyed visiting extended family, making their last trip when Sabin was 79 years old. Milagros cherished celebrating her birthdays with family and her kuadrilla (lifetime friends). The family is thankful for the loving companionship and support provided by her kuadrilla in Boise.

Milagros was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother. She delighted in sharing her Basque culinary skills with family and friends. Her children and grandchildren could be found around her dinner table every Thursday and Sunday, enjoying the bounty of Sabin and Milagros' garden which included choricero peppers. Milagros and Sabin smoked chorizo in their basement and made morcilla (blood sausage) "when the moon and signs were right."

Milagros was preceded in death by her husband, Sabin; her mother, Vicenta; her brother, Jenaro; her sister, Martina, and her grandson, Adam. She is survived by her children: Sabin (Noni), Luis Mari (Joy), Josu (Royce); her grandchildren: Eric (Mel), Edee (Jason), Mark, Tom (Lynette), Ric (Tara), Sabin (Casey), Chaz(Mary),Ben, Megan, and several great grandchildren.

A vigil service will be held on Thursday, June 8th, 2017, 7:00 p.m. at Summers Funeral Home, 1205 W. Bannock, Boise, Idaho. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, June 9th, 2017, 12:00 p.m. at St. John's Cathedral, 775 N. 8th Street, Boise, Idaho. A luncheon will immediately follow at the Boise Basque Center, 601 W. Grove Street, Boise Idaho.

The family would like to extend a special thank you for the care and comfort provided by the staff of St. Luke's Hospital and Meridian Internal Medicine Clinic.
