Jeanne Catherine Plaa, nee Errecalde, passed from her earthly home and entered our Lord’s Heavenly Kingdom at the age of 92 on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 in Upland, CA.

Jeanne was born on the Bastanchury Ranch in Fullerton, CA to John and Jeanne Errecalde on March 9, 1925. She grew up on the family’s ranch in Norwalk, CA and graduated from Excelsior High School in 1943. After graduation, Jeanne went to work for 1st National Bank where she honed the accounting and bookkeeping skills that she would later use to manage the finances of the family business, Mocho & Plaa Dairy and later M & J Dairy. She met Michel Plaa, a 24 year old immigrant from the Basque Country in 1953 and they were married on April 16, 1955. 

Jeanne was an active member of the Basque Community. She attended and participated in the annual Basque picnics, monthly Basque Club lunches and other cultural events all of her life up until just weeks before her passing. She was a devout Catholic and a parishioner of St. Anthony’s Parish in Upland, CA since 2001.

Jeanne was a devoted and loving wife, mother, sister, mother-in-law, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend. She will be remembered by all that knew and loved her as an outgoing, considerate and wonderful person with a warm beautiful smile.

Jeanne is survived by her husband of nearly 62 years, Michel Plaa, daughter Jeannine (Richard) Bockstahler, son John (Julie) Plaa and her sister Noeline Mocho. She is also survived by grandsons Michael (Jillian) Bockstahler, Kevin (Sarah) Bockstahler, Brian Bockstahler, great grandchildren Nathan, Grace and Adam Bockstahler, nieces Bernadette Quincey, Suzanne (Gary) Wahl, nephew Michel (Tammy) Plaa, great nephew Nicholas Quincey, great niece Alexandra Quincey, sisters-in-law Marie Plaa, Alice Arrossagary, Felicie Changala and many more loving family members and friends in the U.S. and the Basque Country.

Jeanne was the oldest of three children and was preceded in death by her father John, her mother Jeanne, her infant brother Jean Pierre, brothers-in-law Jean Mocho, Raymond Arrossagary, Jean Changala and nephew Benjamin Plaa.

Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at Stone Funeral Home, 355 E. 9th Street, Upland, CA 91786, (909) 982-1369. A Catholic mass with funeral rite will follow the Rosary starting at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 30, 2017 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, 2110 N. San Antonio Ave., Upland, CA 91784. Interment will follow at Bellevue Memorial Park, 1240 W. G Street, Ontario, CA 91762.
