Tourist operators in 21 countries are currently participating in “Meet the Basque Country,” the largest Basque commercial tourism gathering in Euskadi, according to the Basquetour, tour agency, organizer of the event.  The gathering began yesterday in Donostia and will run through Friday, with conferences in Gasteiz and Bilbao. 

Donostia-San Sebastian.   The second edition of “Meet the Basque Country” gathers tour operators in Euskadi from 21 countries: Germany, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Finland, France, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, Norway, Poland, South Korea, Spain, Switzerland, Thailand, the Netherlands, Turkey, the UK and the US.

It is the largest commercial Basque tourism event whose goal is to introduce the charm of Euskal Herria to tour operators from elsewhere and put them in touch with local agencies and tourist agents.

The event, organized by Basquetour, the Basque Government’s tourist agency, began yesterday in Donostia, with a presentation at the Aquarium.  Attending the event were the mayor of Donostia, Eneko Goia, and the director of Basquetour, Arantza Madariaga, along with the Basque Government’s director of Tourism, Mertxe Garmedia; the director of tourism of the Gipuzkoa Provincial Government, Maite Cruzado; the director of Employment and Sustainable Economic Development of the Vitoria town hall, Juncal Ibeas.

Gasteiz and Bilbo

Basquetour has created an extensive program that includes visiting Euskadi through urban escapes, food, coast and nature; cultural demonstration and sports.

This afternoon they will carry out various activities and presentations at the Palacio Escoriaza-Esquivel in Vitoria-Gasteiz and tomorrow they will have a working day at the Iberdrola Tower in Bilbao that will end the event.  Nevertheless, a large number of participants will stay in Euskadi through the weekend, visiting other interesting tourist destinations.
