Amsterdam, Holland.  The Dutch publisher Zirimiri Press, founded by Basque Henrike Olasoso and Catalan Cristina Richarte, has published the poetry book, Norbait dabil sute-eskaileran, by writer Harkaitz Cano, in Dutch.  The translation was supported by the Etxepare Basque Institute. 

The author himself will present the book tomorrow as part of the “Read my World” Literature Festival, accompanied by singer Maite Larburu.  The event will also include a talk about literature, a reading of some of the poems, in Basque and Dutch and a pintxos tasting.

Book Fair in Buenos Aires

After the presentation in Amsterdam, Cano will carry out a tour of presentations of his novel Twist at the end of the month in Argentina and Chile.  Among other events, he will participate in the International Book Fair in Buenos Aires that for the first time will surpass the Argentine border, and will be celebrated in both Buenos Aires and Santiago de Chile.

On September 29, Cano will participate in a roundtable a the Museum of Language in Buenos Aires and will also give a talk on his work at the MALBA (Museum of Latin-American Art in Buenos Aires).  The next day, he will travel to Santiago where he will participate in the “Unchained Melody” roundtable at the Nicanor Parra Library.  The event will gather four writers and a singer who will be asked to choose a song that marked their lives and explain why those melodies and lyrics are an essential part of their personal soundtrack.  “Each writer has to choose a song and later read a text on it.  I will choose “Gaberako aterpea,” by Mikel Laboa,” Cano told EuskalKultura.com.  From Chile, Cano will go to Poland to carry out a series of presentations in the city of Wroclaw.

Harkaitz Cano (1975) is a writer, screenwriter and columnist and one of the most prominent voices of contemporary Basque literature.  Cano published his first work in 1994: the collection of poems Kea behelainopean bezala. His bibliography includes three poetry collections, three short story collections, four novels a chronicle and an essay.  His latest novel Twist was awarded the Euskadi Literature prize in 2012.
