Writer Harkaitz Cano gives a series of lectures this week in Urbana-Champaign, Chicago and Miami

Basque writer Harkaitz Cano is in Illinois today. He’ll give a talk this afternoon on literature, art and catharsis at the University in Urbana-Champaign.  The writer is touring the US, with the support of the Etxepare Basque Institute.  Tomorrow he will be at the University of Chicago, and on Sunday he will conclude his trip with talks in Miami, as part of the International Book Fair there. 

Urbana, IL.  Basque writer, Harkaitz Cano, is in the US touring and giving talks on his work and Basque literature. 

Today, Cano is in Illinois, specifically at the University of Urbana-Champaign, where he will give a talk this afternoon entitled, “Literature, Art and Catharsis.” The event is at 4pm in the Lucy Ellis room in the Foreign Language building.  Tomorrow the author will stay in Illinois and will visit Chicago where he will give another talk at the University.  The Etxepare Basque Institute created the Koldo Mitxelena Chair there which focusses on Basque literature.

On Sunday, he will be in Miami where he will participate in the International Book Fair in two activities.  On the first hand, he will debate the direction of Basque literature at a round table, along with Mari Jose Olaziregi and Pablo Barrios.  He will then join the literary reading “Loudly, Farewell Session,” where various authors will read portions of their work to close the fair.  Other authors include: Daína Chaviano, Anjanette Delgado, Jordi Doce, Jorge Galán, Chely Lima, Guillermo Martínez, Carlos Pintado, Alberto Ruy Sánchez, Ana María Shua, Pablo Simonetti and Julio Trujillo
