GipuzkoAround is a project that hopes to unite, for the first time, the 89 towns in Gipuzkoa.  Its supporters, the team that created “Dancing in the Basque Country,” have asked for help on social media to choose what places should be included.  They are also asking the Basques in the Diaspora.  Let them know your favorite place, and it might be included.

Donostia-San Sebastian.  Would you like to see each one of the towns in Gipuzkoa gathered in one video? That is what the project GipuzkoAround, is proposing and is asking for help to choose the places that will appear.  The idea of the supporters of the project is to “introduce all the corners, so that everyone can appreciate them, with the active participation of people who live and work in all the towns in Gipuzkoa.”

The Basques in the Diaspora are also invited to participate in the project, as Iñaki Goikoetxea, one of its supporters, told EuskalKultura.com.  Goikoetxea worked as an intern in the Basque Government’s Directorate for Basque Communities and explains that the project has not forgotten the hundreds of Basques from some part of Gipuzkoa who would like to see their places included in the video as well.

Online and Social Media

It is very easy to participate: until the end of June proposals can be submitted through social media using #GipuzkoAround or on the form on the GipuzkoAround website.

The team supporting the project is comprised of Iñaki Goikoetxea, Javier Iribarren, María Rubio and Iker Zaballa. The group has prior experience in this same kind of initiative since in 2010, they also published the video “Dancing in the Basque Country,” a tour of Basque geography to the rhythm of Basque dance that was viewed nearly one million times on YouTube.

The video will be recorded in July and anyone wishing to, can attend the filming.  You can also follow it directly on social media and via GPS.  There will also be a recording of the making of the video.

The video will be presented in August and the project is also being supported by Donostia-San Sebastián 2016.
