To begin the New Year with a good plan is more than hoping for it, and a plan that includes getting to know Euskal Herria or returning there during the winter in Argentina, summer in Europe is without a doubt a very good one.  The contingent will leave Ezeiza on August 24th and will submerge themselves in the life, geography and culture of Euskal Herria for 17 days, in the constant company of tour organizer, Mariana Domine Irigoyen.

Arrecifes, Argentina.   Pioneer in traveling where emotions take precedence above the mere touristic value, Mariana Domine Irigoyen, reference at the Euskal Etxea in Arrecifes, is again offering a tour of the Basque Country where “the travelers can get to know Euskal Herria profoundly without missing the benefits of a good hotel and food: the combination is the result of the experience.”  In the words of Domine,” we have supported a circuit that includes touristic sites but also daily experiences that are especially attractive for members of the Diaspora; those that unite what they know, or hope for from a visit to the country of their ancestors.  In that I think it is very important that the itinerary is thought by those who, as members of a Basque center, share those expectations and personally accompany the group during the tour to ensure they are met," she explains.

Besides getting to know the country from the inside, Domine counts on her experience, this is the third trip that she has organized, which allows her to adjust the details in hopes of improving it each time.  Despite having organized prior trips, she always adds something new.  “For the 2017 tour, we will visit Asteasu the hometown of writer Bernardo Atxaga.  These are things that allow the traveler to capture the Basque essence, outside of the touristic, as well as participate in Aste Nagusia-Semana Grande in Bilbao or dine at a Gastronomic Society, invited by our friends at Zizurkil,” she says.

Itinerary

The 2017 trip will begin on August 24th in Ezeiza and the first stop will be Bilbao, where “the tour of capitals will begin, the Bizkaian and Gipuzkoan coasts – Getxo, the Hanging Bridge in Portugalete, Gaztelugatxe, Getaria, Zarautz, Hondarribia…., towns in the interior like Gernika, Tolosa, Oñati, Zumarraga… and touristic sites like the Arriaga Theater, the caves of Santimamiñe and Zugarramurdi, or the Sanctuary of Arantzazu….” among others.

During each excursion the group will be accompanied by a local guide.  Travel will be in luxury buses, and lodging in 4-star hotels.  Also included in the package are 12 lunches, and 2 dinners in typical Basque restaurants.

Quotes and Contact

The invitation is aimed at members of all Basque clubs.  Any that may have a group interested should visit with the organizer and new presentations may be organized.  There is a limit of 20 spots per trip, first come first served.  Costs will be communicated privately based on double occupancy and includes taxes and fees.  The trip can be paid for in pesos on the exchange rate on the day payment is made, or can be paid for also by credit card.
