As part of her brief trip charged with activities, writer Toti Martinez de Leza will visit Argentina in hopes of spreading her work on a larger scale. One of her commitments will be the Buenos Aires Book Fair, where her books will be for sale. Nevertheless, and according to her, “The main reason for my trip is to speak with Basques in Argentina and tell them about our land.” Martinez de Lezea will give talks in Basque clubs and will also attend the “Buenos Aires Celebrates,” on Sunday May 11th.

Buenos Aires, Argentina.  The Basque community in Argentina is experiencing some very intense days where activities and visits are not few.  Remember that in April film directors Aitor and Amaia Merino, singer Joseba Gotzon and photographer Kepa Etchandy; as well as, on an official visit, Asier Vallejo, Director of the Basque Community Abroad of the Basque Government was in the country from the 22nd-27th of last month.  Activities were also organized reflecting in each case the commitment and participation of the people.  Besides the Aberri Eguna celebrations and the commemoration of the Bombing of Gernika, there was also the Gure Arropa exhibit at the Museum of Art and the FEVA General Assembly meeting to name a few.

Looking at May, the tendency doesn’t look much different.  Continuing with programs that began in April, participating in the International Book Fair in Buenos Aires this year has once again given an opportunity to publicize various aspects of the Basque culture, the possibility that will greatly increase at the “Buenos Aires Celebrates the Basque Country” this Sunday.  The visitor flow will not decrease and both will include the participation of Toti Martinez de Lezea.

In her first trip to Buenos Aires, the novelist from Vitoria-Gasteiz won’t only present at the Book Fair but will also share time with representatives of the Basque Diaspora in the country.  In her words: “The book fairs are usually very similar, one to the other.  If I make this trip to talk to Basques in Argentina: to tell them and share about our land, mythology, history, customs, beliefs and way of life….”

With this as her goal, her program follows:
