Last night, Sunday, in a room on 5th Avenue in New York the Centennial Gala was held, the climax of the events organized by the local Basque club in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of its foundation (1913-2013). The culmination of the events includes a call to take to the streets of Manhattan in the popular Columbus Day parade in which there will be representation of the local Basque club, NABO, the Basque Government, musicians and dancers who will take part in this massive display.

New York, NY.  Basque participation in today’s Columbus Day parade will put an end to the events prepared by the local Basque community in order to celebrate the Euzko Etxea of New York’s Centennial, the oldest club in the US.

EuskalKultura.com will dedicate a series of articles this week, and will create a chronicle with a large photo component, of the events organized by the local Basque club to celebrate its first 100 years, along with the coverage already reported throughout the year, with special emphasis on this last week, as a tribute to those who initiated and kept the New York club alive throughout the century so it could celebrate its Centennial this month.

How would the Basque nation feel if there was a joyful parade to celebrate the bombing of Guernica? just asking...

  • Columbus Day Parade

How come the Basque Club celebrates Columbus Day? European invaders are responsible for GENOCIDE in the AMERICAS. I view any celebration as equal to a Holocaust parade. Tens of millions of indigenous people died with the coming of the Europeans to the Americas.
