Today the Japanese version of Linguae Vasconum Primitiae, the first work to be published in Basque in 1545 by Bernat Etxepare, is being launched.  Published in Japan by the prestigious Heibonsha publishers, the presentation of this work by Etxepare to the local public is the work of professors Sho Hagio and Hiromi Yoshida, both Basque speakers who did the translation of the texts along with accompanying texts that also includes a preface by Ur Apalategi.

Tokyo, Japan. Today the Japanese version of Linguae Vasconum Primitiae goes on sale, published by the historic and prestigious Heibonsha publishers. It has been the work of two professors, Sho Hagio and Hiromi Yoshida who had the support of the Etxepare Basque Institute, that takes its name from the lowernavarran author who published the first book in Basque in 1545, a few years after the invention of the Guttemberg Press.

The Japanese edition of Bernat Etxepare’s work includes three sections including the translation of the text by Sho Hagio and Hiromi Yoshida, with accompanying para-textual commentary, done by Sho Hagio, and linguistic commentary by Hiromi Yoshida.  The preface was written by Ur Apalategi.
