Sol Marina Mutuberria is 16 years old, a dancer and in the main parade for Immigrant Day in Chascomus she was crowed the Queen of the 2014 Festival.  As part of the festivities, Don Lucio Lahurnagaray was also honored, originally from Zugarramurdi and the first club president.  It was a jam packed weekend for the Basque club that also presented its dance group and had a stand at the festival that took place at the local Liberty Plaza.

Chascomus, Argentina.  Organized by the Festival Commission, the latest edition of the Immigrant Festival in Chascomus took place on October 11 and 12 with the participation of local communities that have organizations such as, the Italian Society, the Spanish Society, the French Society and the Argentine-Arab Community, the Scottish Community, the Hellenic Community, the Community of Laos and the Zingirako Euskaldunak Basque club.

This year’s event was without a doubt very special for club members that were recognized twice.  On the one hand, during the event’s inauguration, on the 11th the historic “Town house,” became an emotional tribute to immigrants from various communities that live in the city, among those was Don Lucio Lahurnagary, born in Zugarramurdi and the first Basque club president.

Secondly, on Sunday the 12th, the main day of the festivities took place at the Liberty Plaza where the Zingirako Euskaldunak representative, was chosen as the Queen of the festival after a parade of typical costumes and the difficult task of choosing a winner.  Sol Marina Mutuberria is a member of the club’s dance group and the granddaughter of the current Mus champion, Juan B. Mutuberria, who along with Ricardo Etchepare will represent Argentina at the International Mus Tournament in Cancun, Mexico.  In regards to this event, the club has also announced that this young dancer will participate at the opening of the tournament by dancing an Aurresku.

The 6th edition of the Immigrant Festival in Chascomus also included a theater piece thanks to the Circulo Calabres Theater Group from La Plata, and a long day of activities that include music and dancing as well as the Zingirako Euskaldunak’s dance troupe.
