The preparation and sale of food is an initiative that many Basque clubs in Argentina participate in to raise money.  In Santa Rosa, the next event will be on Sunday, June 10th and the menu will include “Basque lentils.”  In this way, the Santa Rosa Basque club is getting ready for the second half of the year that will include a big community festival at the provincial level, and the celebration of the club’s 26th anniversary, among other activities.

Santa Rosa, Argentina.   Food sales, deli-style, is a strategy used by many Basque clubs to cover their maintenance expenses, and that is what the Zelaiko Euskal Etxea has done for years.  Their next sale will be this Sunday, June 10th and Basque lentils will be on the menu priced at 120 pesos per serving.  Orders can be made on their website: Zelaiko Euskal Etxea and can be picked up at the clubhouse beginning at 12:30pm.

Among the club’s goals in the coming months, club president Valeria Garcia Oyarzabal explained to EuskalKultura.com  that they will continue with club lunches that will be added to the proposals that come to them from the group of collectivities: “Lunches are quarterly; the first in 2018 was on May 6th and it was a complete success.  For the second half of the year we are getting ready for the big collectivities festival, at the provincial level, with the participation of all the clubs that represent various communities that comprise our province.”

“We will also continue our Basque classes and we are renting a room at the clubhouse for sports classes and folkloric dancing.  We also have a new proposal for our members.  They will now be allowed to use the hall once a year, free of charge, for family celebrations,” the president said.

During the first semester, besides carrying out the aforementioned lunch, Zelaiko Euskal Etxea also represented the Basque Country at the First Collectivities Fair in the Pampa.  The associations participated with standard-bearers, dances and food stands.  In the case of the Basques, besides the standard-bearers, they prepared potato tortilla to sell. In this way, the club is getting ready to continue in this year when it will celebrate its 26th anniversary.  Even if the official date of its foundation is July 31st, the festivities will take place in the first week of August with a typical meal.
