Last Friday, Basque clubs in Valencia, Euskaltzaleok and Laurak Bat announced the winners of the third Literary Contest, Letters from the Diaspora, as part of their literary dinner.  In the Basque student category, the award stayed close to home, to Rocio Risquez Baeza from Valencia, while the Basque speaking category went to Ametz Oyon in Tudela, Navarre.

Valencia, Spain.   The Basque clubs in Valencia, Euskaltzaleok and Laurak Bat celebrated a dinner on Friday that included singing and literature with the awards presentation for the third Literary Contest, Letters from the Diaspora.

This year one of the awards stayed in Valencia, while the second went to Nafarroa. The event began with reading the winning letters, and was followed by naming their authors.

In the Basque student category, the winner was Rocio Risquez Baeza, from Valencia for her letter “Nire Laguna.”  In the Basque speaking category, the winner was Ametz Oyon from Tutera for “Heriotza agurgarria.”

According to organizers, “we had really high-level work and the competition was great.”  The work of the jury this year was left to translator Gilen Mejuto.  The awards include a selection of books in Euskera for each winner, as in previous contests.

“In the name of Euskaltzaleok and Laurak Bat we want to thank everyone who participated and especially to Txalaparta publishing for its generous contribution of Books as prizes,” they declared.

After awarding the prizes, everyone in attendance enjoyed an animated dinner that included singing Basque songs. Zorionak!
