The 25th edition of the Festival of Collectivities in Parana took place in the area of the new port, on the coast of the river and was attended by sixteen different organized communities.  In the Basque case, they were represented by the Urrundik Association with a performance as well as in the festival’s princess contest.

Parana, Argentina.  On Saturday and Sunday November 22 and 23, the Basque Association Urrundik took upon itself the responsibility of representing the Basque Country and Culture at the local Festival of Collectivities.  They did so, once again, with dancing and showing their love and respect for the culture they came from and feel part of.

Over the two spring nights, with weather completely cooperating with the event, the Basque club took the stage and performed traditional Basque dances with their three dance groups: txikis, intermediates, and adults.  In addition ay, as a grand finale, Aldana Vignolo Echaniz, was chosen as the First Princess, just a few votes away from Queen of this year’s festival.

December and Evaluation 2014

Next month, the Urrundik Association is hoping to gather on December 3rd to commemorate the International Day of Euskera; on December 7th for a “Night of Theater, Music and Poetry,” and on December 13th for an end of year dinner.  All of the activities will take place at the club and will aim at celebrating the end of a “good and interesting year.”

In the words of Juan Carlos Borras, club president, “2014 has been a special year; for example, we attended Semana Vasca with 45 members, among which were two Friends from Uruguayana, Brazil, who after being presented in the first Basque Meeting, we had the luck of inviting to this huge festival of the Argentine Diaspora.  We are very happy and sure that this event will allow us to carry out more activities with Basques in the south of Brazil,” Borras told EuskalKultura.com.  Along with the evaluation of this year, the president anticipates that 2015 will be full of activities to mark the Association’s 15th anniversary and the 25th of the Presencia Vasca radio program.
