The University of Deusto is awarded 20,000 Euros by Bizkaia’s Provincial Government for projects relating to emigration and return

The Provincial Government of Bizkaia has awarded the University of Deusto 20,000 Euros to carry out various projects including a conference on emigration and return, and research. The University of Deusto boasts an important Basque Studies Institute, a leading cultural asset that promotes Basque Studies in higher education and disseminates the Basque language and culture. Its audience not only includes the citizens of Bizkaia but also those who live outside of the historic territories, as indicated in a note issued by the Bizkaian officials.

Bilbao, Bizkaia.  In 2009, the University of Deusto created the Basque Studies Institute as part of the college of Social Sciences and Humanities.  Its main objectives include the diffusion of the Basque language and culture, the promotion of superior research on Basque themes, especially those in the social and human sciences, supporting Basque Studies in higher education for those living in Bizkaia as well as those outside of the historic territories, as indicated in a note published by the Provincial Government of Bizkaia. 

The Basque Studies Institute at the University of Deusto has assembled an important collection of literature relating to all aspects of Basque culture.

Projects to be financed by the 20,000 Euros awarded by the Provincial Government of Bizkaia include: conferences on emigration and return, a conference series and research projects, as well as work to be done at the Center of Basque Documentation.  This year they are also preparing to published the work of Andres de Mañarikua.
