The team from San Nicolas took first place in Argentina’s National Mus Tournament in Chacabuco

On the day of the club’s 28th anniversary, the Guillermo Larregui Basque Club in Chacabuco announced that Álvaro Ocáriz and Héctor Mazzolini from the Euzkal Etxea in San Nicolas won the National Mus Tournament that took place last weekend in Chacabuco.  The team from San Nicolas will travel to the US to represent represent Argentina in the World Championships August 25-September 3rd in San Francisco and Chino, California. 

Chacabuco, Argentina.   Eighteen teams participated in the 29th edition of the “Manolo Arriola” National Mus Tournament organized by the Guillermo Larregui Basque Club June 16-18.  The event was also successful in respect to the parallel tournament that gathered over 60 muslaris.  The event that was attended by FEVA’s president, Hugo Andiazabal, also had support from the city.  On behalf of the mayor, Victor Aiola, the city’s Sub-secretary of Culture, Juan Ozan, Ezequiel Courade, Director of Institutional Relations, and councilperson Jorgelina Soñez to present two flags to the club’s board of directors, an Ikurriña and an Argentine flag that were raised at the end of the tournament by the club’s standard bearers.

The team from San NIcolas, Álvaro Ocáriz and Héctor Mazzolini, won the tournament after beating the team from Rosario, Eduardo Imperiale and Domingo Legarreta 4-1.  In the parallel tournament, winners were Osnildo Rodríguez and Julio César Toffani from Chascomus, who beat the team from Mar del Plata 3-2.

The tournament and event concluded with a lunch.  During the meal tributes took place; beginning with remembering Manolo Arriola, a reference of Mus not only in Argentina but also at the international level.  The family of Arriola participated in the tribute and received a very warm salute from the organizers as well as a plaque in his memory.  A plaque was also presented to the family of Eugenio Izurieta who was the most valuable person in growing Mus, in this case, in Chacabuco.  “Along with his unconditional teammate, Heraldo Del Pozo, they were the first team to represent the Guillermo Larregui Basque Club at the National Tournament,” the club recalled.

Finally, the prizes were presented the winners of both tournaments and the national finalists.  “They were three unforgettable days of healthy competition where the Board of Directors, women, muslaris, dancers and friends of the Center worked tirelessly so that our guests felt comfortable and at home.  We think that we rose to the occasion, and that is also how our guests made us fee,” Basque club sources said on the 28th anniversary of the club’s founding.
