Askatasunaren Bidea in San Miguel, in the province of Buenos Aires, published its 2018 program of activities, with new items like the talk that Horacio Marotto will give on April 7th, “Navarrum: 2000 years of Navarrese documents about Euskera,” from the Government of Navarre. The group will inaugurate its Mus Workshop tomorrow that will run throughout the year.  In April their Basque and Culture classes will also resume.

San Miguel, Argentina. The group in San Miguel has shown great commitment to Euskera since 2009, and its diffusion.  A sign of this is the talk entitled “Navarrorum: 2000 years of Navarrese documents about Euskera,” on April 7th.

Horacio Marotto, one of the group’s main references explained that he had the opportunity to tour Pamplona last year and see the Navarrorum exhibit in the General Royal Archive of Navarre, “and when seeing the value in this material, i began to think of how it could be shared in Argentina.  Upon my return, i was armed with a pdf, and photos and explanations that somehow constitutes a copy of the exhibit.  This material will be presented in San Miguel with Matin Colombet, our Basque teacher. “

In regards to the exhibit, the Royal General Archive of Navarre explains online that Navarrorum “is not an exhibit on the history of Euskera, but about its documental reflection, written in a language, like Basque that during nearly a millennium and a half was oral.  A language that was spoken, but not written.  And through three dozen documents, not only in Basque, but also about Basque.  all of these have Navarre in common: they refer to Navarre, and are written in Navarre, and are works of Navarre.  The major of them are from our archives, museums, and libraries, but also are included in documentary centers in Africa, American and in the rest of Europe.”

The talk about “Navarrorum,” will take place on April 7th at 7pm at the Municipal Library, Domingo F. Sarmiento in San Miguel, (Sarmiento Street 503).  Admission is free and open tot he public.  This won’t be the only opportunity to learn abut the work at the Archive in Navarre since Marotto will repeat the talk on May 17th at the Iparraldeko Euskal Etxea in the city of Buenos Aires.
