San Juan, Argentina.  In hopes of promoting historic reflection and intercultural dialogue on the rights of native peoples, the Day for Respect for Cultural Diversity has been celebrated since 2010 on October 12th in all the Argentine territory.  That is why, communities call on representatives of the various peoples who live in their midst to present their cultural heritage through artistic performances, literature, crafts and food.

Invited by the House of Motril, one of the organizing entities of the festival, the Basque community in San Juan participated in the meeting and festivities with flag bearers that marched in the parade that opened the festival, along with a cultural stand, at the Latin American Park, along with another twenty participating institutions.

Throughout the afternoon, the Basque club stand offered the visitors - according to organizers nearly 2,000 people- crafts, and books on cooking, as well as pintxos, were very well received by the public.  Members of the Basque club were also at the stand dressed in the typical costumes especially the txikienak, the youngest two children, Ailin Bernal and Joseba Landa, the latter only 9 months old, son of one of the club’s major supporters, Carina Oyola Alvarez.

The festival also included music and dance performances and concluded with a huge Fireworks show.  The Basque club would like to thank the organizers, especially Mr. Gallardo, for extending the invitation.
