The San Francisco Basque Cultural Center will celebrate its 36th annual festival this weekend

Every February marks the San Francisco Basque Cultural Center’s anniversary, always on President’s Day Weekend. This year activities include an art exhibit by painter, Xabier Soubelet (Basque Country), book presentation by Begoña Echeverria (Chino), pilota matches with pilotaris from Uztaritze and the Federation of Euskadi, along with local pilotaris, and members of the National Selection of Mexico, dance, klika, choir, Basque mass, Amerikanuak, and tributes to four women, Valerie Etcharren Arrechea (NABO) and Mayte Ocafrain, Carmen Salaburu and Mayie Sorhouet (SFO). There will also be a NABO meeting and the mid-term regional World Congress meeting. 

San Francisco, CA.  This weekend is a three-day weekend in the US in honor of President’s Day.  Always coinciding with this weekend is the San Francisco Basque Cultural Center’s Anniversary festivities, gathering Basque from all of North America, as well as the Basque Country. This weekend activities will begin on Friday at 4pm with pilota – women’s pilota goma; followed by Joko Garbi at 7pm with guests invited from Kapito players from Uztaritze (Lapurdi), specifically  Bruno Irachabal, Pantxo Lissar, Laurent Peyroutas, Jean Phillipe Pribat and Eneko Sarratia. Saturday, February 17th

-3pm: Book presentation by Basque-American author Begoña Echeverria of her novel, The Hammer of the Witches
-3:30pm: Joko Garbi Exhibition by players from Uztaritze (Lapurdi)
-4:15pm: Hand ball with local players: Tony Huarte and Francisco Mancilla versus Marcos Medina and Juan Medina, pilotaris from the Selection of Mexico
-5:15pm: Hand ball with pilotaris from the Euskadi Federation of Pilota
-7pm: Dinner – BBQ Steak: $30 for adults and children 12 and under $15 reservations required
-9pm: Dance to the music of Jean Flesher and Amerikanuak

Sunday, February 18th

-Before Mass the Women’s Club will be selling hot chocolate and Croissants to raise money for the Club's children’s activities
-10am: Mass celebrated by Aita Michael Lastiri, with the Elgarrekin Choir, Klika, Txistularis and Zazpiak Bat dancers
-Following presentation of NABO’s Bizi Emankorra Award to Valerie Etcharren Arrechea and the Center’s Bizi Emankorra Awards to: Mayte Oçafrain, Carmen Salaburu and Mayie Sorhouet
-1pm: Lunch: BBQ rack of lamb – adults $30 and children 12 and under $15 reservation required
-4pm: Hand ball with local youth participating
-4:30pm: Handball with pilotaris from the Euskadi Federation of Pilota
-5:30pm: Joko Garbi, with pilotaris from Kapito in Uztaritze

Afterwards the party will continue. All activities taking place at the San Francisco Basque Cultural Center facilities
