The Sagardi group will open six new Basque restaurants in 2015 in Shanghai, Mexico, Bogota, London, Prague and Amsterdam

The group runs restaurants for example at the Euskal Etxea in Madrid, or that of Euskal Etxea of Barcelona and others like the Sagardi in Buenos Aires…currently a total of 24 Basque-cooking establishments.  Work has begun to open two new venues in the beginning of 2015 in Shanghai and Mexico, announcing that four more will open by year’s end.  With its president and founder Iñaki Lopez de Viñaspre at the head, it is expected to invest 9 million euros in 2015 and to create 240 jobs.  Today there are a total of 640 employees. 

Vitoria-Gasteiz. The group emerged in 1996 and firmly continued its projects and internationalization that led it to establish its first overseas restaurant in 2008 in Buenos Aires.  As its founder and president, Iñaki Lopez de Viñaspre, told Europa Press, 2015 promises to be an interesting year with plans to open six new establishments in Shanghai, Mexico, Bogota, London, Prague, and Amsterdam, investing 9 million Euros, or 1.5 per locale, creating 240 jobs, some 40 per locale, and with each measuring between 300 and 500 square meters.

Sagardi began in 2008 in hopes of internationally expanding with a Sagardi in Buenos Aires that was followed by the opening of the Bodegas Torres in Santiago Chile in 2011, and the inauguration last year in Porto of Vinum.  Today, their restaurants also include hotels in Sant Pere de Ribes (Barcelona) and Buenos Aires, as well as its own catering line, Cook.

Each one of the restaurants specializes in different culinary concepts with names like Sagardi, Irati, Orio, Euskal Etxea, Bay of Biscay, Vinoteca Torres, Miguel Torres, Ibai, Sagas, 1881, Vinum, Pork…boig per tu, 1902 Coffee Modernist and Oaxaca.  All tolled they employ 640 people and closed 2013 with a turnover of 36 million Euros, forecasting a 15-18% growth for 2014, allowing Viñaspre to continue the international expansion of the company.
