Mass was celebrated by Bishop Ojea, and Fr. Lis Lagazio Uso from the parish.  After the service, the Mayor, Luis Andreotti Retegui, gathered the clergy for the ribbon cutting and the unveiling of a plaque.  The inauguration ceremony of the restoration and enhancement of the parish of Our Lady of Aranzazu in San Fernando, Province of Buenos Aires closed with the “Misa Criolla” by Ariel Ramirez, sung by Patricia Sosa.

San Fernando, Argentina.  After four years of work, the city of San Fernando in the province of Buenos Aires presented the restoration and enhancements to the Our Lady of Aranzazu Parish, dedicated to this Basque advocacy of the Virgin.

The inaugural event took place on September 22 and began with mass celebrated by Bishop Ojea and Fr. Jorge Luis Lagazio Uso, with local authorities also attending with a large number of parishioners.

Afterwards, at the church’s entrance, the Mayor, Luis Andreotti Retegui and the clergy cut the ribbons, unveiled a plaque and also exchanged gifts.

After the event, there was a special musical.  The well-known Argentine singer, Patricia Sosa sang “Misa Criolla,” a religious and folkloric work composed by Ariel Ramirez for soloists, choir and orchestra.

Remember that the corner Stone of the Our Lady of Aranzazu was placed in 1806 and that church construction began in 1870.

The restoration and enhancements done over the four years returned the towers and the pinnacles, and the cross at the front of the church to their original glory from the beginning of the 20th century.

The work was directed by architect Pablo Terzaghi and was paid for with municipal funds.  The parish community assumed the commitment and the administration of the church, “with the clear awareness that it is the heritage of San Fernando,” the administrators explained.

The Church was declared a Provincial and Municipal Historic Monument in 1988.
