Although founded in 1991, the Euskal Etxea in General Belgrano, in the province of Buenos Aires, hasn’t been active over the last few years.  This year, 2017, that is now ending, has included its reactivation.  Its members have once again started to gather and besides organizing cultural activities, have also elected a board of directors and have resurrected their legal status.  Full activity will resume in 2018 with dance, cooking and Euskera classes.

Gral. Belgrano, Argentina.   Located some 160 kilometers from the capital city, the Basque club in gral. Belgrano was founded in 1991.  Sponsored by Euzko Etxea in La Plata, the club launched into the dissemination of the Basque culture with the push of youth groups.  In this way, they began organizing activities and represented the community at local activities.

As time passed, the initial energy began to decline and the club has been going through a period with very little activity.  Now, thanks to a group dedicated in recuperating the club in its role as a diffuser of Basque culture.  The idea came up in the middle of the year, thanks to the board of directors led by Joty Mayoz, who has a clear goal for 2018.

As the club secretary, Sonia Etchelet, explained to EuskalKultura.com, over the coming days we will renew our legal status “we are getting organizing so that beginning in March we can start providing dance classes, taught by a professor who is training especially for this task.  We will also have cooking classes taught by Berta Recabal de Carricaburu.  In the future we would also like to have Basque classes.  Even if we don’t have our own clubhouse, we count on the support of the city.  We are very happy because the people are behind us.  We have already made hundreds of friends through social networks, and we are also getting new members,” she said.

The new board is comprised of the following:

-President: Joty Mayoz
-Vice-president: Héctor Carricaburu
-Secretary: Sonia Etchelet
-Treasurer: Hugo Mandagaran
-Auditor: Ana Lía Carricaburu, Guillermo Gorostiague
-Directors: Emilia Arredondo, Dora Alberro, Elisa Bigres
-Alternate Directors: Laura Arredondo
