The University of Havana is hosting the exhibit “Nafarroa 1936-Navarre 1936” by Jose Ramon Urtasun, all month long.  The exhibit organized by the Basque Language and Culture Lecturer at said university, Joseba Sarrionandia, can be visited at the Library of the College of Arts and Humanities at the university and the Art Gallery in the Plaza of the Revolution.

Havana, Cuba.  According to a notice from the Etxepare Institute, the exhibit includes 36 works that represent Franco’s repression in Navarre.  All of the images recreated historic facts, “making it an important work of art for the retrieval and dissemination of historical memory,” The exhibit is generating great anticipation in Cuba because of the importance of these facts for many Cubans whose families were forced to exile, according to Etxepare.

The exhibit’s inauguration was attended by some 200 people from the Basque Country and Cuba who enjoyed an introduction by Beatriz Lafita “Art and War,” and a talk entitled, “Painting and Historic Memory,” by the exhibit’s creator.

During the month of May the exhibit will move to the Casa de Bombilla.
