The workshops will begin today at 7pm at the Pastoral de Migraciones in Neuquen, and will be directed by the recently elected board of directors.  These activities are just the beginning of a list of goals that the club has planned for the coming months, including their participating in the 2nd Meeting of Patagonian Basque Clubs and Semana Nacional Vasca.

Neuquen, Argentina.  Informative meetings in the city of Neuquen to invite Basques and descendants of Basques in the city and area began in the beginning of 2016.  The initiative to establish a Basque club took right away, and the group led by Manu Molina, from Bizkaia, was presented last April 9th under the name of Euskal Etxea of Comahue, and with a Basque festival that representatives from other Basuqe clubs also participated in.

Now, and in regards to strengthening the institution, members of the Basque club elected its first board of directors. The new board is comprised of:

-Lehendakari: Manu Molina
-Vice-lehendakari: Carolina Uthurralt
-Secretary: Luis Carranza Cabrera
-Treasurers: Saúl Etxeberri, Osvaldo Goñi
-Directors: Gabriela Gorostizaga, Diana Fernández A, Sonia Beltrán, Julio César Salazar
-Alternate Directors: Jorge Jauregui, Juan Zaldarriaga Domínguez

Once the board was elected, they decided to organize two workshops that will take place today, at the Pastoral de Migraciones in Neuquen, beginning at 7pm.  Both will be taught by members of the newly-elected board: the Mus workshop will be taught by Jorge Jauregui and Osvaldo Goñi and the painting workshop will be taught by Sonia Beltran.

Short and Long-term Projects

Besides electing its board, the assembly held on September 10th also discussed projects and decisions regarding the future.  As Manu Molina told EuskalKultura.com, “among the topics discussed were our legal status, which is already underway with the corresponding lawyers.  At the same time, we have short-term goals of representing our club at the 2nd Meeting of Patagonian Euskal Etxeas in Puerto Madryn with Luis Carranza and I attending.  We also want to attend Semana Nacional Vasca in Necochea, as well as getting more visibility in our city.  In order to do that, we have talked about holding food sales, raffles, and maybe also holding a Basque dance workshop,” the lehendakari said.
