The Basque club has great news to share with the community: In 2018 all of its activities, dances, Euskera and food events will take place at their new clubhouse.  The locale is situated in the center of the city, and club members have already had the chance to visit, holding their end of year party there.  The formal inauguration won’t take place until the end of January with other Basque club representatives in the area also attending.

Puerto Madryn, Argentina.   In 2017 the Puerto Madryn Basque club celebrated six years of sharing the Basque culture in their town.  After much effort, and in its short journey, it has become a reference for the Basque community in town.  Nevertheless, since the beginning the club recognized one weakness, not having their own locale, making gathering difficult, especially for the youth.

This situation changed after the club has been able to rent a place “that is completely appropriate for our needs."  As club president, Carlos Aristarain, told Euskalkultura.com, the goal of the club was to find land where they could build a clubhouse. “We held fast to our goal and while taking the steps toward it, we still needed a place to meet, and so we decided to rent one.  This locale is in the middle of town and gives us a lot of visibility so new members will also find us.”

The clubhouse has an ample hall area where dance and Euskera classes can be held.  There is also a kitchen that will allow the club to continue with its gastronomic activities, one of the biggest money makers, and a small office.  “We also have a pretty large patio with a grill that is ideal for recreational activities, dinners, parties,” Aristarain said.  “We are now completing some work there and once we are done, we will hold an official inauguration, possibly at the end of January with the participation of other clubs,” he added.

Although the official inauguration is a few weeks off, club members already had the chance to visit the new locale for the club’s end of year celebration, taking advantage of the Christmas break when more youth are home as well.

Etorritakoengatik is located on Albarracín 375. You can find them on Facebook: Centro Vasco Puerto Madryn.
