Anamarie (Sarratea) Lopategui and Mikel Lopategui are a young couple who are very well-known in Basque circles in Nevada with well-deserved recognition as musicians, she plays the triki and he the pandero. They are also the owners of the “Ogi Deli” (Ogi is bread in Basque) a very popular deli/bar in Elko.  This week the Elko Daily classified them as one of the top 10 business of 2017 in Elko.

Elko, NV, USA.   Children of Basque immigrants from Navarre (Anamarie) and Bizkaia (Mikel), the menu of ther place includes Basque style sandwiches and dishes, sagardoa (cider), patxaran and kalimotxo.

During these days, when the year is in review, the local paper, the Elko Daily Free Press, published an article last Friday by Suzanne Featherston entitled, Elko’s Top 10 Business Stories of 2017 that highlights “Ogi Deli” with the following text:

Anamarie Lopategui and her husband, owners of Ogi Deli, are first-generation Basque Americans and they are proud of their heritage and the cuisine they grew up with. They opened the restaurant in early 2017 featuring recipes that highlight some family traditions including piperade: red pepper, garlic and onion grilled in olive oil.

Some of the ingredients for their sandwiches and other dishes come from the Basque region in Spain and France, including two kinds of sheep milk cheese. Jamon serano is a big favorite.

Lopategui says she has developed a good following in the area and even has regular customers who regularly travel across country and stop to eat and say hello every time.

Zorionak Anamarie eta Mikel!
