Zinemaldi or the San Sebastian International Film Festival will take place this year September 22-30. The event will gather film stars and will provide a wide range of activities related to the film industry.  With the goal of giving a push to the Traveling Basque film Series that they started in 2012 at the Euskaltzaleak Euskategi in Buenos Aires, its creators, Carlos Gabilondo and Norma Carrizo will travel this year to the festival to make contacts with references in Basque film and visit places like the Basque Film Archives.

Buenos Aires, Argentina.   Recently returned from Cuba, Carlos Gabilondo received more good news to share with the community.  From September 22-30th he will be at the Donostia-an Sebastian Film Festival, where he will get to know references of Basque film and experience one of the largest international film festivals first hand.  During a week he will share ideas and opinions with Basque filmmakers, as well as present the traveling Basque film series project to them.  He will be accompanied by his wife, Norma Carrizo, at this the 65th edition of Zinemaldia.

In Gabilondo’s words, “Thanks to the collaboration of the Delegation of Euskadi in Argentina, we got the credentials to enter the venues; as well, and also with the help of delegate Sara Pagola, we were also invited by Joxean Ferandez to Tabakalera for a guided tour and to get to know the Basque Film Archives up close.  We have also been invited to the Zinemira Awards, and we have been made aware that we will be given some materials to bring back to Argentina.  We are very happy, it seems like a dream that will soon become reality,” he said excitedly.

Remember that the Traveling Basque Film Series was created in 2012 at Euskaltzaleak Euskaltegi in Buenos Aires.  Soon, the initiative took off, and began to cross borders not only that of the euskal etxea, but also the city’s.  Thanks to Carlos Gabilondo, Basque film, both classics and newer selections, have traveled to many cities in the province of Buenos Aires as well as to the provinces of Misiones, Entre Rios, and Neuquén, to name a few, surpassing in five years more than 200 screenings.  As if this weren’t enough, July 8-16th they were also in Cuba as part of the 140th anniversary of the Havana Basque Club.

Now this stop at the Donostia-San Sebastian Film Festival will be without a doubt a huge boost to the initiative.  When they return the couple will continue their task, touring from one to the next, with their own resources, many clubs in the country to share Basque film of all eras at each.  Zorionak lagunok!
