The Denak Bat in Mendoza celebrated its anniversary with dinner prepared by the Goierri Gastronomic Society in La Plata

The Mendoza Basque Club celebrated its 58th birthday with a visit from members of the Goierri Gastronomic Society opf La Plata.  The event began with a talk by Professor Cesar Arrondo and continued with dinner that the cooks in the group prepared especially for their hosts.  The program of events organized by Denak Bat will continue over the coming weeks with a free film series that will be held in September and October and a Tea-Bingo that will take place at the clubhouse this Saturday. 

Mendoza, Argentina.  One hundred and thirty people attended the anniversary event on August 30th at the Denak Bat, including a talk by Professor Cesar Arrondo, entitled “Euskal Herria: History of a Nation.”  Arrondo talked about the historical process that conducted the Basque Country to its current situation, in a way that was “very educational and high quality, that left the people very happy,” according to club sources. 

After the presentation, the cooks from the Goierri Gastronomic Society honored club members on their 58th anniversary with a menu complete with pintxos, lentils Bizkaian style, and dessert.

The program will continue every week until October 10th with a Basque film series that the Basque club organizes at the Municipal Microcine, located on Calle 9 and Julio at 500 there. 

The series will begin next Friday, September 19th, the same day that the International Film Festival begins in Donostia, and will provide the following features to the folks in Mendoza: El Lobo (9/19), Aupa Etxebeste (Friday 26/9), The Witches of Zugarramurdi (10/3), and Eight Basque Last Names (10/10). Admission is free and the event is open to the public.

Along with this program, the Basque club also invites you to a Tea-Bingo that will take place on Saturday the 20th, at the clubhouse.  The event will begin at 4:30pm and admission is $60.  Reservations may be made via email
