The Corpus Christi Eusko Etxea publishes the program for its Euskal Jaia that will take place on July 29-31

From the province of Misiones, the Eusko Etxea Basque club in Corpus Christi organized its annually “Basque-Argentine Culture Festival” in honor of Saint Ignatius of Loyola.  This year the festivities will take place July 29-31, and will include a large program of activities that will include film, talks, religious ceremonies, and friends getting together. 

Corpus Christi, Argentina.   Organized by the local Basque club the “Basque-Argentine Culture Festival” in honor of Saint Ignatius of Loyola wil begin on July 29 and will run throughout the entire weekend.  The main goal of the gathering is to disseminate the culture of Euskal Herria, but also to strengthen the Basque club by providing more visibility and above all, to support a relationship with other local institutions.  In the same way, and as in prior editions, representatives of other Basque clubs in the country will travel to the city to participate in the festival and lend their support to members of the Eusko Etxea.

The program of activities follows:

Friday, July 29

-16hs, screening of Amama as part of the traveling film series, presented by Carlos Gabilondo
-17:30hs, discussion about the film
-19hs, Mass celebrated by Fr. Jorge, who will arrive with a pilgrimage from the Brocheriana Mission, that left on June 18 from Villa Silipica, in the province of Santiago del Estero, and who will arrive at the end of July to share the San Ignacio festivities in the province of Misiones
-21hs, Dinner in Corpus Christi, entertainment for the visitors

Saturday, July 30

-10:30hs, Awards ceremony for the 8th Literary Contest “Amazing Stories,” organized by the Basque club the event will take place in the Guillermo Larregui Reading Room at the Atahualpa Yupanqui Library at the clubhouse.  Boxed lunch

Afternoon activities will take place at the Temple of San Ignacio.

-16hs, Second film presentation by Carlos Gabilondo showing the film La fuga de Segovia (Escape from Segovia)
-17:30hs, Talk “Francoism, the Emergence of ETA and the Situation of Current Political Prisoners” by César Arrondo. Mateada
-19hs, Mass celebrated by Jesuit Priest Chuco Villar from the Parish of Santos Mártires in Posadas, who also worked for several years in the Basilica of Loyola in the Basque Country.
-20:30hs, Power-point explanation of the La Casa-Torre and the Sanctuary of Loyola by members of the Corpus Christi Basque club
-Dinner.

Sunday, July 31

At the Temple of San Ignacio.

-10hs, Mass and procession with The Most Reverent Bishop of Posadas, Juan Ruben Martinez.  Presentation of a small image of San Ignacio by the Basque club to the Parish of San Ignacio.
-12:30hs, Picnic lunch, in the parish hall

In Corpus Christi

-19hs, Talk by Professor César Arrondo: “La diáspora vasca” (The Basque Diaspora)
-20:30hs, Farewell dinner. Menu includes: paella and will be prepared by the “Alkartasuna” Gastronomic Group from the Iparraldeko Euskal Etxea Basque club in Buenos Aires.
