The race that connects Bilbao to Bordeaux, will once again take place after the success of its first edition in 2014.  The race is organized by the Bordeaux Basque club, the Society of Cyclists in Bilbao, the state Bordelais – ASPTT (Bordeaux) and Urgozo Iturriko Txirrindulari Elkartea (Amorebieta).  The new edition will take place on May 5 in Bilbao to arrive in Bordeaux on May 7.

More than a bike race, the Bilbao Bordeaux 2016 will once again be a sporting and cultural event above all, a brotherhood between cities on the Atlantic arc beginning in Bilbao, passing through Donostia Europe’s Cultural Capital 2016 and ending in Bordeaux.

The first race that took place in 2014 began in Bordeaux and it was so successful that organizers had no doubt that they would repeat the experience.  The race was supported by the Bordeleko Eskual Etxea (Bordeaux), the Society of Cyclists in Bilbao, the state Bordelais – ASPTT (Bordeaux) and Urgozo Iturriko Txirrindulari Elkartea (Zornotza, Bizkaia).  This time, it will also enjoy special support from the IUP the Professional University Institute in Baiona.

The race will be divided into three stages that will travel through the beautiful landscapes of the Basque Country and Aquitaine.  The first will be Bilbao to San Sebastian, 148 kilometers; the second will take cyclists to Leon in Les Landes, for 137 kilometers; and on the last day riders will travel to Bordeaux for a final stage of 160 kilometers.

The day before leaving Bilbao, participants will be warmly received there with a visit of the new soccer stadium, San Mames Barria, and on the Sunday after arriving in Bordeaux, they will also be able to enjoy a cultural visit of this beautiful French city.

Applications are already available on the event’s website: www.bb2016.org.
