The Beti Aurrera Basque club in Chivilcoy invites everyone to participate in its 2016 Literary Contest “Tree of Gernika”

In the fifth edition of the contest the theme and genre are free.  Words can be submitted until July 25, and the awards ceremony will take place in September, at an event organized by the Euskal Etxea.  At dinner celebrated to launch the contest, the dancers from Beti Aurrera performed dances that they performed at “Buenos Aires Celebrates.” 

Chivilcoy, Argentina.   During an especially active 2016, the Beti Aurrera Basque club in Chivilcoy, in the province of Buenos Aires, just launched its “Tree of Gernika” contest with the collaboration of the local branch of the Argentine Society of Writers (SADE).

The proposal is aimed at people 18 years and older, who reside in the country.  This year the genre and theme are free. The deadline to submit texts is July 25, and the jury will complete judging by August 25, with the awards ceremony taking place in September at one of the club’s activities.  Complete contest rules are available here.

Dinner for 180

To present the club’s activities to the community the Beti Aurrera held a dinner at its clubhouse that was attended by nearly 200 people.  At dinner, the literary contest was announced and the club dancers also performed dances that they had previously performed at “Buenos Aires Celebrates the Basque Country’ 2016.

Mus, film and parade on May 25

The Beti Aurrera club has an annual program that it sticks to loyally.  That is why on May 27 it held its Mus Night, where they taught anyone interested this Basque card game. Explanations were provided by muslari Guillermo Serio.

Just before, on May 25, club members represented the Basque community in the official Day of the May Revolution parade.  Beti Aurrera was represented by standard bearers, Alberto Mindeguia and Cata Ibanez, who carried the Argentine flag and the Ikurriña.

Finally, to conclude  May’s program of activities, Carlos Gabilondo, who is in charge of the Basque Film Series, showed the film 80 egunean (In 80 Days.)

San Juan

At the center of the club’s June activities, old and young alike work hard to complete the effigy that will be burned in the San Juan bonfire. The effigy is already seven meters high and the event will take place on Sunday the 26th.
