The dantzaris and musicians from the Mar del Plata Basque club will spend two weeks in Euskal Herria to get to know, and submerge themselves in the Basque atmosphere while participating in festivals and performing Basque and Argentine dances for the local community.  Performances will take place in Bizkaia, Gipuzkoa and Lapurdi and will begin this Saturday.

Mar del Plata, Argentina.   “The idea for the trip came up in the group a year and a half ago, the idea was to tour the Basque Country and see if we could perform at the same time to provide our Basque-Argentine testimony,” Ignacio Oreja, dance director explained to EuskalKultura.com.  “With time, the project started to take shape and if in the beginning we were twelve that were going to travel, now we are twenty six, and with a schedule of five performances,” he said.

The events will begin just after arriving in the Basque Country, since they are leaving Argentina on Friday July 24th and have their first performance on Saturday the 25, at the Paella contest in Getxo.  On July 31 they will dance at the San Inazio festivities in Zubieta; on August 5 in Gorliz; and on August 8 and 9 in Hendaia.  In regards to their stay, the dancers and musicians will stay in Amoroto from July 25-Augsut 6 and will be in Hendaia on August 7-9.

“There were many people who helped us make this trip a reality,” Oreja said “Among them we would like to thank Koldo, Gorka and Arkaitz who we met at the Semana Vasca in La Plata last year, and who facilitate many things for us for the trip.  We would also like to name the director of the Akelarre group in Hendaia, who invited us for the last three days including room and board.  To them and everyone who supported us, thank you very much!... and please, if you are in the area, come and see us."
