Ayacucho, Argentina. The Calf Festival and the ”Dia de la Yerra” in the city of Ayacucho, in the province of Buenos Aires, took place last week from March 10-17th.  As every year the Basque community was represented at various events.  Without a doubt, one of its most visible moments was during the festival’s closing parade with the club’s institutional float carrying the club’s queen candidate, Maria Islas.

The floats are thematic, and entities work hard to create striking proposals.  This year, the Euskal Odola Basque Club took the figure of Guillermo Larregui, known all over the country as the “Basque with the Wheelbarrow,” and put together a tribute to this Navarrese immigrant and his trek of thousands of kilometers on foot, pushing a wheelbarrow.  The work was created by club members, Elena Alberro, Raul Jeraci, Silvia Farre, Ignacio Echeverria, Alberto Argel and Marta Isasi.

The club’s festival queen candidate traveled through the streets on the float, waving to the public and the authorities.  After the parade, the Basque club opened its doors to the community, this time to enjoy the music of the Coyuyos.
