Organized by the city and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the festival is known as “Centenario Art Night,” gathering a large number of institutions and above all a huge following at the activities that are carried out outdoors.  The Lagun Onak Basque club in Pergamino, have participated in the event since the beginning, and they were also present in 2016 with a food stand, and dantzaris who guaranteed the community’s presence.

Pergamino, Argentina.  “Centenario Art Night” took place on April 23 along the Juan B. Justo Avenue in the Centenario neighborhood in Pergamino. From afternoon to night, attendees could enjoy a huge range of shows and cultural activities that took place in the street and on the four stages set up to that end.

As every year, the local Basque club, the Lagun Onak (Good Friends), were very involved artistically as well as gastronomically.  Alicia Ruiz Moreno, member of the club told EuskalKultura.com that “we had a large work group in all areas, from setting up the stand to manning it to the very end.  In the kitchen we had our cooks, Carlos Miguelena and Carlos Manzoco. The youngest also participated by preparing and serving drinks, especially kalimotxos.  Of course we all helped out at the stand, and anywhere else we were needed.”

Goizeko Izarra

Goizeko Izarra is the name of the club’s dance group that is comprised of dantzaris of all ages.  Every one of the groups had their moment on stage at the festival and performed, among others Banakoa, Arku Dantza y Makil Dantza.  (See video here)

Upcoming Activities

Even if participating in an event like the “Centenario Art Night” takes a lot of work, members of Lagun Onak don’t have a lot of time to rest since they still have work to do for “Buenos Aires Celebrates the Basque Country.”  This huge festival will take place on Sunday May 8 and the Lagun Onak will participate with dancing and at the Tamborrada.  In the same way, they will continue their program on May 13 with their monthly gastronomic gathering.
