Youth in the Diaspora interested in participating in the Gaztemundu program can now begin preparing, since yesterday the Basque Government’s Council approved the 2015 edition.  The announcement will be published in the Official Bulletin of the Basque Country on June 2, according to sources in the Directorate of the Basque Community Abroad.  The application period will last a month, from the day after its publication in the Official Bulletin or July 3.

Donostia-San Sebastian.   The Government’s Council has given the green light for this year’s Gaztemundu program, aimed at youth from Basque clubs who wish to visit Euskadi.  The program’s budget this year is 50,000 Euros.

This year, fifteen youth between the ages of 18 and 35 who are members of Basque clubs abroad will spend September 25-October 9, 2015 in Euskadi in hopes of deepening their knowledge of the country as it is today.  The program will take place in Vitoria-Gasteiz and youth will be provided training in management of cultural entities.

After proper Gaztemundu, participants will be included as guests and will participate in the sessions of the World Congress of Basque Collectivities that will take place in Vitoria-Gasteiz during the second week of October.

The stay includes work and activities through which youth of Basque origin have the opportunity to maintain contacts with institutions, organizations, businesses and individuals who work and live in Euskadi, as well as to create networks between youth from Euskadi and beyond.

Interested persons will be able to submit their applications to the General Secretary of Foreign Action at the Lehendakaritza, Directorate for the Basque Community Abroad, as well as at Delegations of Euskadi abroad, or by following other means recognized by the law, once the call is published in the Official Bulletin of the Basque Country (anticipated for June 2)

Gaztemundu is part of the Basque Country Strategy that aims to project Euskadi abroad and was created in 1996 by the Basque Government, with the double aim of publicizing the current reality of Euskadi in all of its aspects while allowing the integration of new generations in the working life of their clubs.  To date, more than 750 youth have participated in this program, many of which are now serving on the boards of directors of their clubs or who occupy other positions of responsibility.
