The Basque Government approved Gaztemundu 2018 at its Council meeting on Tuesday.  This year’s program is aimed at youth from Basque clubs who would like to experience a two weeks educative stay in Euskadi.  This year the program is dedicated to traditional Basque dance.  There are 15 spots available to individuals between the ages of 18 and 35, and the program will run September 1-16, 2018.

Vitoria-Gasteiz.   This year’s edition is dedicated to training individuals in the área of Basque traditional dance.  To that end, a group of expert dantzaris and professors of Euskal Dantza from all over Euskal Herria will teach the course.

The stay will also include activities that will provide participants the opportunity to meet with institutions, organizations, and persons who work and live in Euskadi, as well as the normal contact between participants from different places in the Basque Diaspora.

After been approved by the Basque Government’s Council the program needs now to be published in the Official Bulletin of the Basque Country (BOPV-EHAA).  The a month and a day after its publication will determine the deadline to apply.

EuskalKultura.com will be sure and keep its readers in the loop, and will also report when the event is published in the BOPV-EHAA.  So, if you are interested, it will be a good idea to pay attention.

Gaztemundu 2018 is part of the Basque Country Strategy that intends to, among other objectives, to project Euskadi abroad.  The current format of the program was created in 1996, with the double goal of introducing participants to real life in Euskadi, as well as facilitate the integration of the newer generations into the lives of their respective Basque clubs.

Since then, some 800 individuals have participated in the program, many of whom are now part of the boards of directors of their local euskal etxeak, or hold responsible posts in their Basque communities.
