The Basque clubs in Valencia open their third Letters from the Diaspora contest

The Euskaltzaleok and Laurak Bat, Basque clubs in Valencia, have worked closely together for the last years, resulting in the Literary Contest, Letters from the Diaspora, now in its third year.  In prior editions, the response was very good and both entities invite Basques from around the world to practice their Basque, writting a few lines and taking part.in the contest.

Valencia.  Invited by the Euskaltzaleok and Laurak Bat Basque clubs, the third Literary Contest, Letters from the Diaspora is now open.  Its goal is to support the Basque language and its organizers especially encourage Basque students in Basque clubs around the world to participate.

The letters that are submitted need to be written in Basque but the topic is of the author’s choosing.  There are two categories: one for Basque students, and the other for fluent Basque speakers.

Deadline to submit letters is January 20.

Contest Rules:

1.  Letters need to be written in Basque (batua or whichever dialect).  On the other hand, works that have already won prizes, or have been published will be disqualified.

2.  They should be a maximum of two pages; 1.5 spaced, using Arial 12 font.  The theme is open and the format is a letter.

3.  Works sent via email need to include a title or a slogan.  The message needs to include the category, author’s name, address and email.

4. Letters should be sent to: gurelehiaketak@gmail.com, and in the subject line: Diasporaren Gutunen Literatura Lehiaketa." Works can also be sent via ordinary mail to:

-the Valencia Laurak Bat Basque Club (C/ Mª Jordán 6, Baixos)

-the Euskaltzaleok Basque Club of Valencia in Racó de la Corbella (C/Maldonado 46, Baixos).

The deadline for submissions is January 20.

The prize is a selection of books in Euskera of two kinds. Winners will be announced at a Literary Dinner at the Euskaltzaleok clubhouse (Racó de la Corbella) on January 29.
